RIP Brittany Murphy. 12/22/2009
Shocking news came to me whilst I was perfectly innocently watching Dirty Dancing a couple of nights ago. Brittany Murphy has died of a (suspected) heart attack at age 32! She was a brilliant actress who adorned many movies, such as: Clueless 1995 (The really, really old, classic one). Girl, Interrupted 1999 (The one with Angelina Jolie). Riding in Cars with Boys 2001 (The one with Drew Barrymore). Spun 2002 (The one with all the drugs). 8 Mile 2002 (The one with Eminem). Just Married 2003 (The one with Ashton Kutcher). Uptown Girls 2003 (The one with Dakota Fanning). Little Black Book 2004 (The one where she smashes the telephone with a hockey stick). Sin City 2005 (The comic-book one). Happy Feet 2006 (The one with the penguins). She also released a single Faster Kill Pussycat with Oakenfold. In honour of her memory, I will personally be watching as many of her movies as I can, not a day will go by where we forget how good an actress she was. There is also a campaign going to support her, trying to get everyone to download her single to make her a sudden Christmas No.1. I think the thought is lovely, but it will be very difficult to make happen. I'm still supporting it though :) Rest in Peace Brittany, you will always be loved. YUM. 11/22/2009
Thanks Gingerrrrrrr. 10/06/2009
Well, I have decided to post another of my COUGH really really bad COUGH poems, this one chosen by my lovely Ginger (that's right, MY Ginger! MINE!) Wishing Don't you wish things were the same as before? Don't you wish things never changed anymore? Don't you wish we still behaved like lovers, instead of strangers with a past? Don't you wish we still had mornings lying in with a coffee? Don't you wish we still had evenings snuggled up with TV? Don't you wish we had these moments forever, and the little things would last? But tomorrow's a brand new day, The past has already passed us by, It's time to start again, And forget the things that made us cry... Unfortunately it is still a work in progress, but hopefully it's alright so far. KAYTHANKSBYE. First Post In October! 10/02/2009
Well, I for one cannot believe that it is October already. The leaves are turning brown, the evening's are getting darker, and no one even thinks the word 'sun' anymore... I have now been doing Advanced Level Study for 3 weeks, and I want to kill myself. The only thing keeping me focussed is: a) the possibility of higher education, a reasonably decent job and (hopefully) a lot of money in the future, and b) the one night a week I allow myself off to do something that might be seen as enjoyable. Recently, I have take to forgetting the outside world and immersing myself in the one of movies. So here, enjoy them as much as I did... Movie Number One: The new, (all-improved?) Fame. Now then, this movie caused a lot of controversy for myself. Having already seen the original movie AND taking part in the musical version, I could not see how this remake would be any better. However, it far exceeded my expectations. All I can possibly say is, GO SEE IT NOW! It is enrapturing, exciting, enthralling and just plain snazzy. And yes, I will admit it, I am not ashamed... it made me cry. (I'm a girl I have an excuse). Word of warning: although I did just go on about how fabulous it is, if you have seen the original you may consider this one as a bit like marmite. *CLICHE* you love it or you hate it. Many people prefer the 80s version, but I'll leave you to make your own decision, dear reader. In the mean time, have a clip. OR NOT (see the end of my post). Movie Number Two: Angels and Demons. Before I continue to express my opinions on this movie, let me just say that it was WRONGLY hailed as the sequel to The Da Vinci Code. In actual fact, Dan Brown wrote the books so that The Da Vinci Code succeeded Angels and Demons but in order to make the films look nicer, it was sequelised for Hollywood. Now, on with the unlawful criticism... ahem, I mean my perspective. I am not really going to criticise this movie, because it was actually very, very good. I will not spoil the plot for you, but I will say if you don't mind watching very talkative films where you really have to pay attention, then you should see this as well. It is extremely interesting, and honestly keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Word of warning: one of the final scenes is shocking, and may be quite upsetting for some viewers, but the whole movie offers quite an insight to the setting in which it is based. Now here, have a clip, before I continue and end up telling you the whole story... *INSERT CLIP HERE* okaaaay, unfortunately either www.weebly.com or www.youtube.com is being a dickwad so my clips aren't working, but if you wonderfully, definitely not lazy people search for the Fame 2009 Trailer and the Angels and Demons Trailer on Youtube I'm sure you can watch it for yourselves. This Occasion Deserves A Post All To Itself 09/20/2009
My sister. Is in. A movie. It has it's own trailer and everything! A MOVIE! IN AMERICA! It won an award as well! Ohmygod ohmygod. Here, watch it. She's the one who says "so sorry" (and other bits). MY SISTER'S IN A MOVIE. That is all. Oh Dear 09/18/2009
This has just gone to show the true extent of my laziness. I have not posted for... over two weeks I believe. Despite constant (well sort of) nagging from Thomas. Ah well, this well-overdue and long-awaited post has finally arrived and I am going to fill you in with all that's been happening to me, (well not all just the main, interesting stuff). As you will be able to tell, I am a very exciting person... 4th September: Went to see my friend in his production of Hamlet. Was much, much better than I expected. All the cast were extremely talented. Stayed at my friend's house, which is like a mansion and painted white (honestly, my house could probably fit in his four times). That was a good night. 6th September: Went to auditions for Fame. Eventually ended up going to callbacks and getting a letter offering me the part of Mabel Washington. I turned it down. HAHA got you! Course I accepted it silly, silly people, what sort of actress do you think I am? Anyways, if you would like to come see Fame (which will be amazing, I assure you), it is being performed at The Radlett Centre from the 12th to the 14th of November. For tickets call the box office on 01923 859291. 15th September: After an enrolment day and about three induction days, I finally began, officially, at Hills Road in Cambridge. I adore it. It is a billion times better than my old school, (one which levels of shittyness are shown just in its name: Fearnhill). After four days there, the people are friendly, the lessons are great (especially the free periods), the enrichments are painful but wonderfully energetic and the workload is a bitch! But I can imagine a happy two years there. 16th September: I watched a show performed by the Upper Sixth at Hills called Hou Hou Shahou's Chorus Of Descent. It was taken up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and I have to admit that I thought it wasn't going to be all that great. BOY was I wrong. Considering it was devised, written, taught, learned and performed in a very short space of time, it was one of the most incredible shows I've seen from people of my age. The incorporation of music and dance into such an imaginative plot worked perfectly, the cast were immensely versatile and talented, the props were used perfectly, the transistions were smooth and, obviously, the applause at the end was deafening. All I can hope is that us Lower Sixths are giving the oppourtunity to take something equally fun up to Edinburgh this year. Well, those are the most exciting things that have happened to me in the past two weeks (I didn't say I was a very exciting person y'know! Oh, wait, I did...) Thanks for reading, and I'll try not to leave it so long before I post again. PS: Remember! Fame at The Radlett Centre, 12th - 14th November, call 01923 859291 for tickets. That's 01923 859291 for those of you who forgot the number in the space of three words. PPS: 01923 859291! PPPS: I hope my director appreciates all this advertising. Then again, not many people read my blog, so it's not really a huge amount. But still, it's the effort that counts. LOL... cats. 09/03/2009
This site has given me much joy, many laughs (and a few tears... of uncontrollable giggling). I hope it gives you its wonders as well... www.icanhascheezburger.com Here are a couple of examples I have found truly enlightening (well, one made me laugh like a loon and the other's just plain cute): By the way, I just found this on my pictures and I think it deserves a mention. Apologies to any readers who actually use them... but dear non-existant God it made me laugh. For The Tominator 09/02/2009
As promised, today I will be posting one of my poems for Mr Reddington. I have looked long and hard through my little red book, trying to find a poem that was as impersonal as possible (trust me, that was hard) but eventually I came up with two. Thomas has picked the one that will be published and here it is (apologies, it is quite long): War and the bombs explode, and the fires start, and innocent people are torn apart. and in the church they pray, and in the street they sing, "please put an end to this cruel beginning". and the children leave all the dreadful towns, you can hear all the tears, you can see all the frowns. and the radio stirs, another attack, thirty more orphans join the pack. and the food has been monitored, they've shortened supplies, so a third of the soldiers can try and survive. and the germans are coming, constant air raids, people are longing for victory parades. getting used to the blitzes, and six years they last, knowing that freedom was a thing of the past. yet this was all just deja vu, the first world war had been fought like this too. but instead of learning, it happened again, we had to revisit all the killing and pain. so the lesson is here, for everyone's sakes, we've really got to learn from our mistakes. ps. just to let you know, the war did finish, but nothing could ever replenish, all the lives that were lost and the hope that was gone, maybe we won't fight so much later on. It was originally wrote as each two lines being four but i shortened it for the sake of wasted blog space. If you thought it was rubbish, in my defence, it was written a couple of years ago. Here's a youtube video to end, hopefully you'll be so amazed by this you won't think about my poem anymore. Pinch Punch First Of The Month 09/01/2009
That's right, it is the 1st of September 2009 and officially the first day of Autumn, (if we decide that Autumn = September, October, November; Winter = December, January, February; Spring = March, April, May and Summer = June, July, August). But back to my point, seeing as it is the 1st of September 2009 and Summer is over, I must now refer to my list of "10 Things To Do Before Summer Ends". Before I begin, in my defence, I did say that I very much doubted that any of these would be completed... I'm just proud that I did some of them aha. Number 1: Post on www.estherlouisemcneill.weebly.com every day. This was completed. One down, nine to go. (Those of you who feel it necessary to point out that several posts were actually made by a certain Thomas Reddington, remember that I was incapable of accessing a computer - a situation which was in no way whatsoever my fault - and it doesn't matter who posts them, the fact is there was a post every day! Those of you who can't remember this, shut the fuck up.) Number 2: Finish reading The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Indeed, here was another completion! (I'm doing well aren't I?) In the time I gave myself, I read this book, My Sister Jodie by Jacqueline Wilson, Calling Cassie Crazy by Jaclyn Moriarty, Henderson's Boys - The Escape by Robert Muchamore and am currently partway into My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Big apologies to Mr Reddington again for not reading his philosophy book. Truth is, I haven't even opened it. Number 3: Organise at least one more big trip (for example to London, or possibly the beach). This, my fellow mourners, was my first failure. It might have happened if my foot hadn't broken if I'm being honest, but then again it probably wouldn't have. On the bonus, I will be travelling to London for the Thames Festival on the 13th of September, and I think that counts. Number 4: Go through my bedroom and clear out everything I don’t need or use so I have a fresh start to Year 12. If anyone knows me, you will know that I SUCK at tidying. Seriously. I just leave it and leave it for months and then I have some massive room clear out (which doesn't even get finished) and then I leave it again. I am usually quite a neat, hygienic person (probably OCD) but when it comes to my room, well, I'm not. My mantra: if I know where everything is, it's tidy. Number 5: Begin to plan, from now, what to get my friends for their birthdays and Christmas so I don’t miss anyone out like I did this year. Another failure. Honestly, if I'm too lazy to tidy my room am I really gonna do this? Number 6: Start a conversation with someone I don’t speak to very much once a week. I almost did this. I started it. But forgot to continue. Number 7: Write a song. Properly. With music and everything. And completed lyrics. Now see here, I have plenty of songs. Lyrics, that is. They're all okay too if I say so myself. It's the music bit I struggle with. So what if I've been playing guitar for 9 years? That means nothing! When it comes down to it, you put a piece of music in front of me, I play... you ask me to compose, I laugh in your face. Number 8: Practise my guitar for 3 hours a week. This should've been the easiest one to do relatively speaking. But I'm lazy. Go figure. Number 9: Go to auditions for something (ie Les Miserables in Welwyn Garden City on the 5th September, Fame in Radlett on the 6th September and Bugsy Malone in Bedford on the 12th September). This failure is due to the fact that there were no auditions before the 1st of September! I am planning to go to the above three, though, and I think that counts as well. Number 10: Stop focussing on the fact that exam results are done. This was only completed because I got my exam results and got into Hills Road so had no reason to fret anymore. Well there you go. That was my list of failures (otherwise known as my life) and all it proves is that I procrastinate. A lot. However most of the time I procrastinate in order to come online and talk to you lovely people, so I think you'll forgive me. The Love Of My Life 08/31/2009
I LOVE HIM. This picture is actually my wallpaper on my computer and has been for nearly two years. I adore him. Seriously, if he was my age, and alive, I would stalk him, kidnap him, force him to marry me and wait patiently till he loved me too. He is such an amazing actor and (from what I've witnessed in interviews etc) a really good person. And no, he didn't kill himself, it was accidental and due to his methods of acting. Here is a list of his films and television programmes (I'll only list the most well-known otherwise it would go on forever): 10 Things I Hate About You - 1999 A Knight's Tale - 2001 The Four Feathers - 2002 The Brothers Grimm - 2005 Brokeback Mountain - 2005 Casanova - 2006 The Dark Knight - 2008 The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus - 2009 He died 22 January 2008, part way through filming the movie above and as a result of the mindset filming the new Batman movie put him into, (he was a method actor and had to take sleeping pills to cure his insomnia after playing The Joker, but accidentally overdosed). Because he passed away after only filming part of his new movie, it has now been edited to include the actors, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. GO SEE IT. We owe it to his memory. Heath Ledger was one of the greats. He will always be remembered, appreciated and honoured. |
